Yo guys. I don't know where some of you were today at the practice.

1)But just to let you know, from now onwards, if you are going to miss a practice, please inform me before the practice, no reasons such as piano lessons or tuition. Only thing accepted is overseas or school stuff. Other than that, i won't accept anything.

2)I know this is like strict and all, but SYF is next year, and we need full attendance EVERY practice. And PLEASE CHECK YOUR EMAILS everyday, for notifications on practices and all.

3)Practice your songs at home.

4)Come to every practice to sing well, not to make friends. (okay fine..you can have fun [: ) But, whatever it is, you must sing well. Eyebrows lifted, cheeks up, posture straight. Squeeze your butt and use every ounce of your energy, like how we prepared for Musical Evening.

I know i sound like super robotic on this post, but after today's practice I realised that alot of things are wrong in our choir, that will hinder this choir's progress.

And as I say. You come to choir to sing. If you don't really enjoy singing, then no point being here. And if your passion for singing is there, there's nothing that will stop you from coming to choir practices, other than really very important reasons. So, you know, if anyone of the choir scolds you and all, take it, accept it. Hate that person also can, just don't let it affect your singing. Because, if we really have pride in our singing, you will never want to sound bad, and will never be able to live with a horrible sound.

Ok. I'm done. haha..don't be too scared at this. I know i sound like i want to murder all of you. Just that, we really have to buck up yah, and all I've said, is cause i really think that everyone's passion for singing should surpass many things in our lives, except of course religion and morals...ahah

HEY SOP ONES!!!!!! I know the title is like....really off, but i like to think of our concert as something big, haha so that we will do our very best..but YES it's true, to us, this is BIG, like Broadway is to the world..so you know...i just wanna say, on this beautiful eve of MUSICAL EVENING, that you guys have done great these part few months, and I DON'T regret using my beautiful cash to buy those chocos for you..and YES you will receive them tomorow...AFTER the concert.. and PLEASE PLEASE sleep early..i'm already tired at 6pm right now, BUT i am shaking myself awake, so i can sleep later..make sure you all sleep by 12 ya? the earlier the better...yeaps yeaps..i know we're all startin' to lose our voice, so yes...keep those vocal cords safe, and make sure you just gear up for tomorow...breathe the songs, hear the songs, silent sing the songs in your dreams:> yes yes..aiya..i think you know what i mean, and what i am trying to say....is..JUST HAVE FUN TOMOROW, and JUST GEAR UP FOR IT:> so guys..go all out for it, use our motto: CONSTANT AND CONFIDENT, which is CONSISTENCY AND CONFIDENCY, NOT constancy, so yeaps:> and just well done for all your singing throughout this year:> proud of ya'all

Hey soponeyes...REMEMBER....to..RAISE YOUR EYEBROWS....and also to RAISE YOUR CHEEKS UP HIGH HIGH HIGH, when you SING...please also remember to sing with OPENED MOUTHs...if not later Ms Ong scold us again, and make us stare at Anna.hehe...ANYWAY...yes yes...just raise everything to sing in better placement, and for me, to don't drop my jaw(which is improving)...and to relax my neck(which i have yet to get a hold of..) yes yes.....and for Diu Diu Dang A, please remember the first page yeah?

OKAY...FUN PART: MAKE UP(eew)..ok...but yes..green eye shadow, cream foundation...lipstick...blush...eyeliner....and anything else..but yes yes..please go and buy, so you can look sparkly and pretty on stage....yeaps yeaps...like me.. :)

Hey guys! i know everyone is like drained and may i qoute ms ong, "jaded"..hhaah adult speech, so difficult to grasp...anyway...i just wanna say HANG IN THERE...we only have like 4 more days to go...4! 4! 4! and let's just have good rests everyday, sleep early, rest those voices, look through your scores, do some stretching..and gear up for Saturday...I think i need to really revise all my actions, haha cause i always make mistakes especially on "rich man's world" :)

So yes. Make sure you DON'T lose your voice..because some of you I can hear when you speak are losing the beautiful voice.....So please take care, drink water, eat fruits, iron and vit. c tablets...and eat eat eat good food..and if any of you have injuries--(me and meijun) some how, don't exercise and rest..ok fine..i'm addressing myself...i PROMISE i won't exercise until after the concert..because my legs hurting bad..and it sucks..but i belive in Mind OVER MAtter..so i tell my self: No PAIN NO GAIN!!! AHAAHA i think i have such a good vocabulary, don't you agree? so make sure you take care of yourself....have a good rest...see you constants and confidantes.

okay..i've realised that all my headings have absolutely no meanings, and they are just there, to be a title..hmm..ok..not making any sense..anyways..we are like..1..2..3..4..5....yes, 5 days from Musical Eveing...*shivers* , AREN't YOU EXCITED???

SO, we MUST OPEN OUR MOUTHS AND SING...tomorow rehersal is super important...and dont be nervous....heck the other CCAs or teachers..just sing....they will give you a stone face..but that's why we sing: to bring life to the stones and the stoned. We as I always say, are the CONSTANt AND CONFIDENt, and we breathe life, sing life, and of course, live life...HAHA you can imagine me saying all this. And Teryne, don't roll your eyes when you read this..you eyes may just very well pop out! HAHAHA

So yeaps, just do your best guys,, and open up those mouths, and also, all of us must BREATHE. I guess...you know,..this blog says we are like super heros..i guess it's true...we don't need to breathe...wonderful talent we have..but no...ms ong prefers superheroes which are the "breathig kind"..haah..so...BREATH, with consistency and confidence..

Chocolates and Chocolates

Hey SOPONES! i have fulfilled my promise to buy you guys chocolate, and have bought them...BUT you'll only get it after the performance on Saturday..if not you will gorge yourselves and get a sorethroat.

And...remember to look through your scores this weekend, and have a good rest.:) you can dance to yourself in front of the mirror if you want to...though i think if Teryne did that she will end up like punkin' you know..cause she's like staring at..like..herself..:)hahahha KIDDING:) teryne is a pretty JHA-Pa-NESE...hahahhaaha

I don't know..but every cell in my body is tingling with "choirness". I guess it's because for the past week, choir has become my daily life, and my home just a place to stay over. Hmmm....i don't know what i'll do with my life after the concert. I'll be like so free..and have nothing to do..

Anyway..wat i wanted to say is...i know choir practices are so tiring..just kills you..but only one more week plus plus...and yahoo!!! but too a certain extent..i think we'll all miss the practices.don't ya think so..i sure know you'll miss ME!:>

okok..so here's some tips for the concert: DON"T FREAK OUT...just be confident SING OUT LOUD..don't sing like mice, like we did in the June concert:) let's just put everything from our hard work into the concert..don't ever give up..such a waste it would be..to know you worked so freakin hard just to end up dying on stage...SO GUYS WE MUST BE CONSTANT AND CONFIDENT. JUST GO UP THERE AND SING. SHUT OFF YOU EARS TO NOISES FROM THE CROWD...basically just keep calm. If you have a religion, trust in watever you believe in. If you don't have a religion..then just trust in yurself!:)

I'm sure you guys will do just fine.

Hello all.

It's been some time since I've posted (I'm Teryne, by the way, not Juniper).

At any rate, I do hope all of you remember the contents of the promise that you made today, mainly the following (& a few additional points):

Focus during practices
Don't talk unless you are told to do so/you have problems with the song
Make time to look through your scores before practice (at home/school)
Cooperate with the leaders (music/exco)

Now, I know that some of the measures that we take may seem too harsh. Or perhaps you just don't feel comfortable doing what we tell you to do. If something like that happens, just tell any of us and we'll try to help the situation/come up with other things that can help in our singing. Don't keep it in and expect us to know what you're feeling/thinking. We're not psychic (psycho, maybe).

Also remember about the holiday practices. They're really important, especially since the concert is in 36 days' time.

Last but not least, remember to complete your designs for the programme sheet by Monday. Pass it to Ariel/Lixin/me in either soft or hard copy. Below are our full names if you're sending it in soft copy:

Hey guys! my beloved sop1s. IT's been a while since i posted on this blog.. i know... but there are a few matters i have to address...don't worry it's not a scolding:>

Okay firstly, SECTIONAL RUNS. I expect all members of the section to be there, unless you tell me before hand that you are not going because you have a good reason. Secondly, i want all members to RUN, during the run. It's a run. Not a walk. So please...thank you very much. Cause it's really no use if you walk, because we are training. Not taking a stroll. I know it's like really informal, so let's keep it that way, a relaxed thing. But....you guys have to run. If not....my exercise regime for you guys ..will change :)...
Which brings me to the next point:

I know you guys are like upset over the whole Prague thing and all. And i think you know I am to. But just wanna apologise for giving everyone a black face that they. But after going home and thinking it over, i realised that maybe Ms ong was right. Maybe we just, are not ready. I don't know...it's hard to admit it, but honestly. Especially when Ms low talked about the day when the esplanade people came to listen to us that day. It is true. If we can't even sing well, or let's say, sing properly during a practice, then how are we to say that we are ready to sing for PRAGUE?? haha...i know this sounds hypcritical because i was like not willing to accept any reasons for not going to prauge. But i realise now,i was wrong. So here i am apologising, and hoping you'll get wat i mean.
I feel we musn't let this get us down. We must really push for Muscial Evening, and SYF. To prove to the whole school, that we are not just another CCA. But one that demands respect. And no one is going to give us respect, IF, we continue this way. and i highlight IF, because. It means, that the outcome can go two ways.
1) we contiue on the same lacklustre way. And we dont' prove ourselves.

2)We work as hard as ever. And we acheive everything that we have been dreaming of.
Making the dream into reality is gonna be hard work. But it's necessary. :) I really hope that we can work together as a section to push ourselves to sing better, and also to push the choir together. Especially during sectionals..remember the latest sectionals? when i was conducting Diu Diu Dang? i think all of you knew i was super pissed cause i kept on scolding. and scolding. and scolding. And maybe i said alot about the Sop 1s...but it's because I know our part better so i can spot the mistakes. To tell you the truth honestly, if we had sung like that in a concert, everyone would leave the hall. I don't wanna demoralise you. :> but it's true. It was really really bad. The whole choir as a whole. And it's NOT BECAUSE WE AREN'T CAPABLE! WE ARE ALL CAPABLE. It's just that again, the focus is not there. Everyone was quiet. BUT...no one was focusing. If you TRULY focus. I am telling you, you will be able to sing as well as when ms ong is around! I am not lying. Like when i told you guys to close your eyes and sing alleluia! it was beautiful!that's because all you thought about was to sing. Nothing could distract you. AND I AM TELLING YOU..please. please..that we all would sing beautiful, if we just PUT OUR HEART ADN SOUL into it. And i believe that all of us has what it takes to be a great great section, and also a great great choir! We can do this! you must tell yourself, that I WANT TO DO WELL! I WANT TO PROVE MYSELF! and I AM GONNA WORK HARD FOR EVERYTHING I WANT!
Focus during the practices, and not talk. I will sing with all my heart.

THAT's what we need. We don't need a great singer who has no heart and feelings, or no determination. What we need is that attitude and spirit to want to GET WHAT WE WANT. NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES, as a team. And i througly believe, we can do it! And we will!

So let's look forward to choir, and really just sing with everything, for EACH AND EVERY PRACTICE. And, since we have a really senior section, encourage the other sections to focus! And...when we go on stage., JUST SING! don't look at the audience and freak out like we did on speech day(i did too..:/);..Just GO AND SING! not like last SYF where some of us shrunk...SING WITH EVERY THING YOU HAVE GOT..and just focus on MS ONG. SING LIKE THERE's no TOMOROW!

Never give up my frens:> we can be a great section, and all of us know that. Now, let's just put what we know, on our hands, our lips, and our voice.

Alrigh then. Those of you who have been to the Sop 2's blog, you would already know what we're singing for Speech Day/Learning Festival.

For those who have not, I have taken the liberty to copy and paste the repertoire here.

For the Sec 2s, there is a new song for you to learn - Joiku, which is actually a really fun song to sing. Sec 1s, you have 2 new songs to learn - Joiku and Sakura.

So yes, the following weeks won't exactly be honeymoon weeks for you (I sound like Ms Azlin), but if you just put in all your concentration, you guys should be fine. Diu Diu Dang A feels sort of fine already, and the same goes for Gift to be Simple (though dynamics are much needed). Yao Lan Qu sounds fine to me, although try to sound more cheena when singing it. And as for Mamma Mia, it'll be a simple matter of brushing it up and teaching it to the new Sop 1s.

And 'tis time to update the template. :(

Come come come! People whose names are still listed on this blog (i.e. all the original Sec 1s) must never be emo! Whether or not you're now in Sop 2.

I understand that all of you who got changed to Sop 2 are feeling discouraged and shitty and stuff. But don't, alright? I know Alleluia is a difficult song, cause it took the original batch of us quite some time to learn it. But don't feel discouraged really, cause you'll be sure to get all the notes soon! And as I have already tagged, the subsequent warm-ups will be concentrating on how everyone in choir can learn to sing properly, in the correct voice placements, etc. So if you guys maybe work hard enough, then your voices will be more suitable for Sop 1 again and Ms Ong will shift you guys back up or something.

SO DON'T GIVE UP! One for all and all for one, I don't care whatever section you're in right now. If you were once in Sop 1 then yes, I will try to help. :D

And the remaining Sec 1s in Sop 1, please don't try to push your voice too hard. Just because our section is now smaller doesn't mean you have to push more alright? The more you push, the sharper we'll get.

Shucks, now I feel that the "Premium Membership" (so cliche) part of the template is horribly not up-to-date, what with the shifting of sections that some people had. Oh well, I shall update that part when the Sop 2s have updated their members section. :)

Alright then, to the reminders (not many, I hope)!
1. Practice on this coming Thursday is optional for all Sec 1s as it'll be a farewell for our previous conductors and well, you guys don't know the previous conductors. So stay at home and I dunno, eat chocolates? :)
2. Sec 2s/3s, be reminded to bring $5 for your choker and $6 for the Happening Happenings T-shirt (if you ordered) on Thursday. Sec 1s, I suppose you guys can pay when school reopens.
3. Gowns to be brought back (I don't know by when). Remember, it has to be DRY-CLEANED!

Sorry for the lack of updates, but I've been pretty withdrawn from blogging for the past couple of days/weeks. Anyway, a few of you have requested the next choir dates to be put up, plus there seems to be a concert to promote so yes. To the typing I shall go.

Next choir practices!:
16 June - Seminar Room
We'll be having our voice assessment (I'm not really sure what it's about), followed by combined rehearsal as usual.
19 June - Communicative Arts Room/Language Lab
Ms Tham and Mr Tay, our previous conductors, ought to be coming on this day so I doubt we'll be having any proper practice. Gosh, I'm so so so looking forward to seeing them!:D

Now, concert promotion.
Date: 25th June
Time: 7.15pm
Venue: Esplanade Recital Studio
Performers: St. Hilda's Secondary School choir and Vox Camerata (an adult's choir) + 2 student pianists.
Tickets: $20 each
I suppose for those who are interested in going, you are to approach Tabitha, since she's the one with all the concert details.

See, I'm updating!

Man, someone else has got to update this blog too you know! So those who want to update, please ask me for the username and password cause I'm convinced that you all forgot already.

Anyway, last night's concert was the bomb. You all did a wonderful job (better than me, anyway). I am especially proud of the Sec 1s because really, you guys have improved since the beginning of the year. All you need to do now is support more and I dunno, decrease the amount of air you release when you sing? And TUNE! Even if we're not sharp, we have to tune with others and go sharp/flat with the other sections so that the audience won't cringe or whatever. A good choir is a choir that can sing without going sharp/flat, but a choir that can go sharp/flat together is a better one! :D

You guys have a long-long break before the next choir practice, so rest well yeah? And also do all your homework and study for Semester 2. With any luck, one of the 2 practices we're having this month ought to be rather slack cause it'll be... Fun, perhaps? I dunno.

AND OMG I LOVE IRELAND! (Jumps happily.)

Today was not a very good day for the section, so let's all just put what's happened behind us and strive harder for both the concert and whatever's to come in the future, alright? And Sec 1s, I apologise for being harsh (honestly didn't realise I was harsh). But seriously, if you guys aren't happy with how we're handling the section you should just come up to us and tell us what you think we're doing wrong so that we can at least try to improve ourselves. If you keep quiet, we won't know what's going on and we'll continue to be harsh and then you guys will hate us more and then we won't be able to sing properly and then, yeah. It's a big beautiful cycle. I feel that I sound very drama.

Anyway, one less senior will be around for the next 3 practices, so please listen well to the seniors. And seniors, MAKE SURE YOU DON'T SCOLD OKAY. Must learn how to control your temper. If you're feeling angry, squat down and meditate (you know the whole Ohm thing).

Good luck with practices! Sec 1s, keep trying alright. I can hear you guys already, so just give it your all and really shock us pale with your wonderful singing. :D

Alright just a gentle reminder to all Sopranees, there will be a short practice tomorrow at 10.30am in the 3S2A classroom. Exact venue is 2nd floor Echo block, furthest classroom from Rotunda. Please note also that we will not dismiss any of you until you all succeed in singing everything without a single flaw. No wait, we won't dismiss you guys until you are all willing to sing individually without giving us any attitude.

I want for all of you to do your best during choir. SYF is in less than a year's time, and if we're aiming for at least a Gold, we have to start working from now. Sec 1s especially have to reach the standard that the rest of the choir's built in the past year. So please, focus more and give more heart and soul into the CCA yeah?

Please note people, that even though Ms Seow clearly said that practice tomorrow starts at 2pm, I want all of you to go to the Arts Con at 1pm so that you guys can properly warm up and go through any songs that you have doubts in.

If you are not at the Arts Con at 1pm sharp, you will be considered as late and you'll be left in the hands of dear Sulixin.

Firstly, I'd just like to congratulate everyone on surviving all the brain-killing exams. Good luck for results yeah? :D

To the more serious stuff, Melanie has updated the choir blog with information on extra practices as well as what's happening on Saturday. So please go and read if you haven't already done so and be prepared for what is to come (oooh, sounds scary). As you all know, your scores are supposed to be as familiar to you as the back of your hand at this point in time (sounds cliche, I know). If possible, I would like you guys to try and memorise dynamics as well and put them in.

Any problems with singing (e.g. unsure about notes etc) are to be brought up during next choir practice.

Now on top of this Saturday's practice, there'll be a number of other practices on Saturday. So I would appreciate it if you guys are able to check your schedules and tell me whether you are free to attend those other practices.

17 May: 2-5pm (combined rehearsal) as well as 24 May: 10am - 1pm (sectionals) and 2-5pm (full dress).

To Sec 1s who have yet to attain court shoes, please do so soon. Don't leave it to the last minute and then come and say you cannot find!

As you all know, everyone finish Mid-years by Wednesday. So make sure on that day, after your exam, don't just go home and slack and watch TV or sleep. Go through your scores! I want all of you to have memorised Ave Maria and Alleluia, as well as all the ABBA songs by the next choir session we have. As for Regina Caeli, if you still really don't know the notes, make sure you clear your doubts the next time we have choir.

And another thing: Ms Seow intends to arrange practice (with Ms Ong) on 9 May, 2 - 5pm as well as on 10 May, 2 - 5pm. So do check your schedules and tell me as soon as possible whether or not you are free to attend those two sessions. The second one is of a higher priority, as it will be a combined session with Ms Ong's adult choir. And do please note that if you cannot go, you are expected to tell me a valid reason, without my having to chase you for one.

I suppose nobody really comes here just yet, seeing as how I've yet to get round to promoting this blog.

All the same, study hard for your midyears.
And at the same time, do remember to take care of your voices kay. I don't want any of you to have sore throats when we finally come back for choir!

Also, although we've already heard this many many many many many times, I want to remind you guys yet again that you are supposed to be at the parade square at 6.55am every Monday (or at the auditorium, if mentioned).

Punishments (per minute that you're late):
20 push-ups (guy's style - no bending knees) and 50 jumping jacks.
And if case you guys want to complain, Mr Tan already gave his approval.
:D
